Should you set up a dress code in your coworking space or let your coworkers decide what they wear? Here is a new article of our Managers’ guide to manners & coworking.
Dress code can be a delicate issue to handle, considering it is generally codified in companies. Even though technically you can fix rules, you should let your members dress as they wish. Keep in mind you, as the manager, set the pace for the entire community.
Dress code? Very few rules in coworking centers
Coworkers come as they are to their workplace, because it is their office! Let them dress freely, and accept them how they are. In addition to creating a cozy atmosphere, you will avoid potential conflicts with those who refuse to suit up.
Limits for the well-being of your community
Even though you chose to let your members dress freely, you should set a few limits to their clothing imagination – especially in terms of decency. Flaunting a swimming suit might be very pleasant for some, but it probably will not be accepted by the entire community, even most likely if your coworking center is an open space.
Be a trend-setter!
Remember that being the manager of the coworking center, the members will naturally follow what you do. If you come over every day, dressed with a pair of shorts and a sailor stripped t-shirt, your coworking center will undergo the Casual Friday look all week! On the contrary, if you wear a tie every day, then your members will suit up.
A lever for your community of coworkers
Your coworkers are the main resource of the center. Adjust the apparel issue according to the category you are aiming at! Also, think about how you can use clothing as a vehicle for a chilled ambience and a little something to share as a community. It can be a t-shirt with your logo printed, or you can organize a Casual Friday session with a contest of the most delirious outfit (the winner will be invited out by the others for lunch or a drink).
